Picatinny rail for Tikka T1x – for training, .22 LR and .17 HMR

Here you will find Picatinny rails for Tikka T1x. The T1x is Tikka's rimfire rifle, and it uses its own specific Picatinny rail. Therefore, you need a rail made for the Tikka T1x, not a T3/T3x rail.

The Tikka T1x MTR was launched in 2018 as a rimfire rifle in the Tikka family. While the T3 and T3x are centerfire rifles, the T1x is built for smaller calibers like .22 LR and .17 HMR. This makes it relevant for training, target shooting, and small game hunting, where low recoil, lower ammunition cost, and many repeated shots are important.

What's interesting about the T1x is that it wasn't just made as a simple parlor rifle with the Tikka name on the side. Sako describes the T1x as a rifle with the same feel and ergonomics as the T3x, and according to Sako, the T1x uses the same stock as the T3x. Sako also states that T3x accessories are compatible with the T1x, which is a big part of the explanation for why the T1x fits so well into the Tikka universe.

When the Sako name is mentioned here, it's because Tikka is part of Sako, and Tikka rifles, according to Sako, are designed and produced by Sako. Therefore, it is also Sako who is behind the official information about the T1x and its position in the Tikka product range.

T1x requires a T1x-specific Picatinny rail

The Tikka T1x is closely related to the T3x in terms of stock, ergonomics, and accessories, but not when it comes to the Picatinny rail itself. A Picatinny rail for Tikka T3/T3x is not the same as a Picatinny rail for Tikka T1x.

This is an important distinction, because otherwise, it's easy to assume that the close relationship between the T1x and T3x means everything is directly interchangeable. The stock and accessories are one thing. The Picatinny rail is another.

Picatinny makes sense if optics need to be moved

One of the concrete advantages of Picatinny on a Tikka T1x is that you can use the same type of mount as on other firearms with a Picatinny rail. This is practical if you want to move a riflescope, a digital device, or a night vision scope between several rifles.

With regular riflescopes, moving the optic of course requires checking and zeroing. But Picatinny makes the actual transfer simple because the mounting system is based on a common standard. This is relevant for a T1x, which many use as a training rifle alongside a larger hunting or target rifle.

Steel or aluminum for Tikka T1x

We offer Picatinny rails for Tikka T1x in steel and aluminum. Steel is relevant if you want maximum strength and a very robust mounting system. Aluminum is relevant if you want a lighter rail and want to keep the weight down.

On a T1x, the choice of material is less about recoil than on more powerful rifles. It's more about how robust a rail you want and how much weight you want to add to a light rimfire rifle.

MOA cant on Tikka T1x

MOA cant can also be relevant on a Tikka T1x. A rail with cant, for example, 20 MOA, helps to utilize the scope's elevation adjustment when compensating for bullet drop. This can make sense for precision shooting with .22 LR, because the bullet drops significantly as the distance increases.

For general training and shooting at short distances, a flat rail is often sufficient. If you are working with longer distances for rimfire, or if your scope has limited elevation adjustment, MOA cant may be worth considering.

Picatinny and night optics on Tikka T1x

Picatinny is also practical if you use digital or thermal night optics on multiple weapons. If both your hunting rifle and Tikka T1x have a Picatinny rail, the same night optics can be moved between them with the same type of mount.

This does not mean that the optics can simply be moved from one weapon to another without checking. With regular riflescopes, new checking and zeroing are of course required. With modern thermal or digital night optics, it's a different story, because many units can store multiple zeroing profiles. This makes it quick to switch from, for example, the hunting rifle to the Tikka T1x and select the profile that matches the specific rifle.

Find the right Picatinny rail for your Tikka T1x

The choice depends on material, optics, and distances. For general training and small game hunting, a flat Picatinny rail is often a good choice. For precision shooting with .22 LR at longer distances, MOA cant may be worth considering.
